The Beauty of Supportive Presence

We were graciously invited back this year to share in one of St. Luke’s day hospices. St. Luke’s is one of AIAIA’s oldest partners and delivers palliative and hospice care to the surrounding townships of Cape Town. We visited the Grassy Park location this year and were greeted warmly by our long time friend and partner, Ronita, as well as numerous staff, volunteers, and people attending the day hospice. 

St. Luke’s hosts weekly or bi-monthly day hospices in 7 locations aimed at creating a safe, supportive, and loving space for patients to feel connected to others, engage in meaningful activities, share a meal with friends, and process their end of life journeys with others experiencing similar challenges.

Time shared together was spent playing games, sharing personal stories, and bonding around the universal experience of both the fragility and the preciousness of life.
