Values & Principles

"I am because we are”.
This is the soul of our mission.

We have been supporting the Malungeni community for many years with food distributions. Our focus in coming years is to empower community members through education and financial support to implement gardens in their fertile soil.

Ubuntu – Community, Mutual Respect, Reciprocity & Connection

"I am because we are”. This is the soul of our mission. We believe that by supporting vulnerable communities to thrive, we simultaneously help ourselves to thrive. Ubuntu is a way of life in South Africa and is at the core of all of our work at AIAIA. The following guiding principles help us to embody Ubuntu:

Dignity – Mutual Respect, Compassion, Caring, Humility, Inclusive, Equity

We honor the inherent worth of every person by meeting them where they are. Every interaction is rooted in deep respect, compassion, and humility. We move beyond transactional service to honor the humanity of everyone we encounter, prioritizing the voices and needs of the most vulnerable and those who have been marginalized by society.

Transformative Partnership – Collaboration, Active Listening, Commitment

We are committed to active listening and embracing the power of working together through deep, mutual connections. We are committed to grounding our interactions and organizational decisions in a deep sense of presence and trust. We believe the community is the expert on its own needs. We defer to local leaders to guide our resources, ensuring that our support is directed by those who live the reality every day.

Self-Reliance – Self-Sufficiency, Empowerment, Resourcefulness

We equip communities and partners with the tools, resourcefulness, and self-determination needed to lead their own change. Our goal is to cultivate the capacity for others to help themselves, ensuring a future defined by self-sufficiency.

Integrity – Transparency, Trust, Living our Values, Responsible

We lead with openness to build and maintain unbreakable trust. We hold ourselves to the highest ethical standards of accountability and clear communication. By being transparent in our finances, actions and relationships, we ensure that we remain aligned with our stated mission and vision. We are committed to being honest about what the organization can and cannot do.

Sustainability – Stewardship, Efficiency

We are uncompromising stewards of the resources entrusted to us. We are committed to the long-term health of our organization and our partners, planning for impact that lasts decades. We seek to be efficient and nimble, adapting our initiatives to meet real needs while ensuring our resources are used responsibly.

Joyful Presence – Love

We believe that our work should be fueled by love. We seek to cultivate relationships that inspire and guide us to remain true to our mission and vision.
