JL Zwane Sunday

Today was fundraising Sunday at JL Zwane Church in Gugulethu—it’s an annual event bringing together the leaders and parishioners from the 19 neighboring zones. The joyful sound of praise resounded from each open window celebrating the monetary fruits of a year’s worth of fundraising labor. Each zone rejoiced through song, dance, and prayer as they processed to the front and presented their offerings. It’s a total gift that was raised through devotion and sacrifice by many who experience food insecurity on a daily basis, but still find a way to give back. Funds raised assist with JL Zwane Church’s operational expenses, including including electricity, water, and staffing.

Today ended with our delegates, visiting the prison at Robben Island—that’s the facility most known because of the incarceration of its most famous prisoner, Nelson Mandela.

The understanding of this country’s history is critical learning for our travelers, as it’s a big part of knowing the importance of our role during the trip.
